Fiber optic patch cord, also named fiber optic patch leads, or fiber optic patch cable, or fiber optic assembly, or fiber optic jumper, or pre-terminated fiber optic cable. No matter what it called, it accomplishes the same job – making the different two fiber optic devices or equipments connected. They can build a connection quickly, it is much easier and faster than splicing.
Fiber optic patch cord is a cable with connector(s) at either end. The connectors typically can be LC, SC, ST, FC, E2000, MTRJ. Normally It will be one conector or two connectors at one end, we call it simplex or duplex. Also there maybe more than two connectors, maximum anfkom provided is 96 connectors at either end, we called it breakout patch cord.
Fiber optic patch cords are classfied by distance, multimode is only for short distance while single mode is for long distance. Single mode also is used in short distance application. 62.5/125 fiber (named OM1) is able to carry a 850nm signal 300 meters, and a 1300nm signal 550 meters. 50/125 fiber (four grades:OM2, OM3, or OM4, or OM5) is able to carry a 850nm signal from 300 meters to 1000 meters and a 1300nm signal 550 meters to 2000 meters, depending upon the speed and fiber grade. A singlemode fiber can carry a signal 100km or more.
The jacket color is yellow for single mode, while four jacket colors for multimode,orange (OM1 or OM2), Aqua (OM3) or Violet (OM4)，Lime Green(OM5).
