Plastic Optic Fiber
Plastic Optical Fiber (POF) is an optical fiber which has a plastic core and plastic cladding, typically the core made of PMMA.
Comparing to glass fiber, plastic optical fiber is cheaper and capable of withstanding tighter bend radius, but the attenuation is generally higher than glass fiber. So it is not suitable for long-distance applications, normally used for the connection which is not longer than 80 meters. Its main use is in the automotive and medical industries.
