Simplex optical fiber cable is a single-fiber cable designed for one-way signal transmission or bidirectional communication using wavelength-division technology. With its compact structure and excellent flexibility, it is widely used in patch cords, pigtails, FTTH systems, and indoor fiber optic networks.
Compared with duplex cables, simplex cables are lighter, more cost-effective, and ideal for applications where only one fiber path is required.
What is Simplex Fiber Optic Cable?
A simplex fiber optic cable consists of one single optical fiber inside a protective jacket.
It is typically built with:
- Tight-buffered fiber (around 900μm)
- Aramid yarn (Kevlar) strength member
- Outer protective jacket (PVC / LSZH)
Simplex cables transmit signals in one direction unless special technologies such as wavelength multiplexing are used.
Key Features
- Single fiber (simplex) structure
- Small diameter and lightweight design
- Tight buffer for easy stripping and termination
- High flexibility and bending resistance
- Available in singlemode and multimode
- Jacket options: PVC / LSZH / OFNR / OFNP
Applications
- Fiber optic patch cords and pigtails
- FTTH (Fiber to the Home) systems
- Sensor and monitoring systems
- Cable TV and broadcast systems
- Industrial communication networks
